Mark Connelly, Campaigns Director at GetUp, leading on economic fairness and creative to present keynote address: How to affect social change on day one of Financial Inclusion – Everyone’s Business, Conference 2015.

Mark Connelly has led prominent campaigns in Australia, including GetUp’s fightback against the Abbott Government’s austerity Budget, and in the US as Director of Online Campaigns for MoveOn.org and then for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), the most prominent civil liberties organisation in the US. Those campaigns include gazumping a charity auction to secure a surf lesson for a former asylum seeker from then opposition leader Tony Abbott, to organising the ACLU’s ‘My Big Gay Illegal Wedding’ contest to find same-sex couples willing to cross state borders in the most creative way to get married.

Mark practiced corporate law for five years before turning to politics, beginning with a national position coordinating lawyers in the 2004 Kerry-Edwards US presidential campaign. He has a law degree from NYU Law and a Master of Public Policy from Sydney University. Mark is also the author of ‘The Last Decision You’ll Ever Make’a humorous wedding advice guide.
